Paper bags are walking billboards. When a customer walks out of your store carrying a bag, they are endorsing your brand. But not all bags are created equal. The material you choose determines not only the strength of the bag but also the perceived value of the product inside.
At Kore Create, we offer hundreds of customization options, but they all start with the foundation: the paper itself. Here is a breakdown of the four most common paper materials used in bag manufacturing to help you choose the right one.
1. Ivory Board (White Cardboard): The Luxury Choice
If you want the absolute best for your high-end clothing or luxury goods, Ivory Board is the answer.
- The Characteristics: It is strong, thick, and has a very smooth, premium texture. It is naturally stiffer than other papers, giving the bag a crisp, structured shape.
- Printability: Excellent. It handles colors beautifully and allows for rich design techniques.
- Best For: Luxury boutiques, high-end fashion, and premium gift sets where brand image is paramount. It is the most expensive option but offers the highest elegance.
2. Coated Art Paper: The Versatile Standard
This is the most popular choice for general retail packaging. It strikes a perfect balance between quality and cost.
- The Characteristics: Known for its high whiteness and glossy (or matte) surface. It is slightly more flexible than Ivory Board.
- Durability: We almost always apply a matte or gloss lamination to Art Paper. This not only makes it waterproof and durable but also adds a refined touch to the finish.
- Best For: Full-color advertising bags, cosmetics, and retail brands that use colorful graphics.
3. Kraft Paper: The Eco-Friendly & Cost-Effective Choice
Kraft paper has seen a massive resurgence due to the global sustainability trend. It is available in White Kraft and Natural Brown Kraft.
- The Characteristics: It has a high tear resistance and is very tough. The texture is rough and natural.
- Printability: Brown Kraft is best for simple, dark lines or single-color logos (black or dark brown inks look best). White Kraft can handle color better but still maintains a matte, uncoated look.
- Best For: Eco-conscious brands, streetwear, denim, and food packaging. It is usually the lowest-cost option and typically does not require lamination.
4. Duplex Board (White Board): The Heavy Lifter
Duplex board is often characterized by a white coating on one side and a grey texture on the back (inside the bag).
- The Characteristics: It is very rigid and strong, making it capable of carrying heavier items.
- Printability: It is decent for text, lines, and color blocks, though not as vibrant as Art Paper or Ivory Board.
- Best For: Heavier items like shoe boxes or hardware, where strength is needed but budget is a concern. It offers good value for money.
Conclusion
Your paper choice tells a story. Ivory Board says “Luxury,” Kraft says “Sustainable,” and Art Paper says “Vibrant.”
